In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland

Journey through Iceland’s extraordinary landscapes with In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland by photographer and explorer Guadalupe Laiz. This large-format photography book pairs intimate color and black-and-white portraits of Icelandic horses with the rugged environments that have shaped them.

Created over five years of visits to Iceland, the collection follows horses across beaches, amid glaciers, and against waterfalls, tundra, and dramatic ocean backdrops. From snow-covered Skógafoss to the active Fagradalsfjall volcano, each setting reveals another side of these remarkable animals.

Drone photography by Icelandic photographer and filmmaker Thrainn Kolbeinsson adds sweeping aerial perspectives, while Laiz’s evocative texts take readers behind the scenes of her work with local horse owners, trainers, and breeders.
