Position Summary

We are currently hiring a Senior Interior Designer to join our growing team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for a self-directed, detail-oriented designer who can confidently manage projects from start to finish. You will lead concept development, manage technical design and documentation, source and spec FF&E, and coordinate installations. This role requires design talent, sharp execution, and clear communication — all while maintaining the voice, values, and aesthetic standards of Design for the PPL.

The contract position offers room for extension based on project needs and performance, with the potential to transition into a permanent role within the company. Ideal candidates are collaborative, resourceful, and thrive in a fast-paced studio where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive interior design projects from initial client consultation through final installation, ensuring that all design elements align with the client’s vision, functional needs, and budget requirements. Manage every phase to deliver cohesive, high-quality interiors.

  • Develop innovative and tailored design concepts that balance aesthetics with practicality. This includes creating detailed mood boards, material and finish palettes, color schemes, and conceptual sketches that clearly communicate the design intent to clients and stakeholders.

  • Produce precise technical drawings and documentation, including floor plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, custom millwork details, and construction documents using AutoCAD and other relevant software. Ensure all documentation complies with local codes and standards to facilitate smooth project execution.

  • Curate and specify furnishings, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), sourcing materials and products that reflect the project’s design direction while considering quality, sustainability, and budget constraints. Build strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to negotiate pricing and delivery schedules.

  • Manage procurement processes by coordinating purchase orders, tracking delivery timelines, and resolving any logistical challenges. Maintain organized records of purchases, budgets, and project expenses to ensure transparency and financial control.

  • Oversee vendor, contractor, and subcontractor coordination, acting as the main point of contact for all external partners. Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, ensure adherence to design specifications, and address any on-site issues promptly to avoid delays.

  • Conduct client presentations and meetings to review project progress, incorporate feedback, and adjust designs as necessary. Communicate effectively to build trust, clarify expectations, and foster collaborative relationships.

  • Mentor and support junior design staff, providing guidance, reviewing work for quality assurance, and promoting professional growth within the team. Facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain high creative standards across projects.

  • Maintain rigorous project management practices including scheduling, deadline management, and resource allocation to deliver projects on time and within budget. Anticipate potential challenges and proactively implement solutions to keep workflows efficient.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, materials, and technologies, continuously integrating innovative design solutions and sustainable practices into projects. Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the studio’s knowledge base.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3+ years of professional interior design experience (required): Demonstrated experience working on residential or commercial design projects from start to finish, with proven ability to manage timelines, client expectations, and overall design integrity.

  • Comprehensive design process proficiency: Ability to lead and execute all stages of the interior design process, including conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and documentation. You understand how to take an idea from an initial concept through to a fully realized interior environment, maintaining design intent throughout.

  • Software proficiency: Advanced working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, and the Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, for the production of presentations, renderings, and construction documentation. Comfortable using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for communication, scheduling, and documentation.

  • Portfolio: A strong, well-rounded portfolio that demonstrates creative vision, technical expertise, and a consistent ability to translate client needs into thoughtful, high-impact designs.

  • Communication and collaboration skills: Clear, professional communication skills, both verbal and written. Comfortable presenting ideas to clients, leading meetings, and coordinating with vendors, architects, and contractors.

  • Project and time management: Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and projects at once while maintaining attention to detail and design excellence.

  • Leadership capability: Confident in mentoring junior team members, taking initiative, and leading both internal teams and external partners through all project phases.
